David James urges Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to join Manchester United
Former England number one David James has urged Everton star Jordan Pickford to join Manchester United. The ex-Liverpool and Manchester City ace believes the 28-year-old would strengthen the Red Devils.
The Toffees shot-stopper has been in decent form for Frank Lampard’s team this season. He has made some impressive saves for the Goodison Park side in the current campaign.
Speaking to GGRecon (h/t Metro), James, who garnered 53 caps for England during his playing career, feels Pickford would not be inconvenienced much if he signed for the Old Trafford side.
“Why not Manchester United? Jordan Pickford plays for Everton and Manchester United are just down the road. If he went there, his off-field disruption would be minimal compared to whether he moved down to London.
“If I was to suggest a side that he should go to, and even though Manchester United aren’t playing in the Champions League at the moment, if they signed somebody like Jordan Pickford then you could argue that would give them the ability to compete at a better level.”
The 28-year-old signed for Everton in the summer of 2017 from Sunderland. He is currently in his fifth season with the Toffees and has been a regular in the first team throughout.
In the previous campaign, the shot-stopper was one of the Goodison Park side’s best players as they managed to avoid relegation. This term as well, his heroics have been crucial. However, Lampard’s team still sit one point above the relegation zone.
But Pickford does have a few chinks in his armours. Those who have seen him play regularly know that he has been prone to a few errors at the club level.
However, when it comes to the national side, the 28-year-old rarely lets Gareth Southgate down. He has been the first choice in between the sticks for the Three Lions since the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Currently, David de Gea has been manning the posts at United. The 32-year-old has been immense for the Red Devils since last season. However, the Spaniard leaves a lot to be desired with his distribution.

On the other hand, Pickford mostly looks comfortable with the ball at his feet. And with Erik ten Hag seemingly wanting to play out from the back, the 28-year-old’s attributes would come in handy. However, it remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford side are ready to part ways with De Gea.
