Manchester United and Premier League rivals Arsenal are set to battle it out for the signature of Rangers wonderkid Jack Wylie, according to Daily Star (h/t The Sun). The 16-year-old is attracting interest from both sides.
The Scottish national has been monitored by the Red Devils and the Gunners. Erik ten Hag’s team have watched the youngster on a number of occasions.
United have sent scouts to keep an eye on Wylie, with the player managing to lift the U16 Club Academy Scottish Cup with the Glasgow-based club. The Scottish national is a versatile player capable of playing at right-back as well as in the middle of the park.
However, Arsenal have also been attracted by the 16-year-old’s talent and have been scouting him for six months. The Gunners’ chief scout Lee Herron, also got a glimpse of the player in Spain this season when Scotland took on the Denmark U16 side.
But the Ibrox Stadium side are keen on keeping hold of Wylie though. However, the 16-year-old is yet to sign a professional contract with Rangers as of yet.
Mikel Arteta’s team currently sit at the top of the table in the English top flight. The Gunners are five points ahead of champions Manchester City although, some of the Arsenal fanbase is crying out for reinforcements in the winter window.
Wylie, at 16, wouldn’t fulfil the quota considering his age and inexperience, but the Scottish starlet would see that Arteta is highly trusting in youngsters. That could become a factor to consider in his decision if it does come down to the Red Devils and the Gunners.
United have a bunch of talented youngsters in their squad at the moment. Anthony Elnaga broke out last season, while Alejandro Garnacho has made a name for himself this term.
During pre-season, the Old Trafford side’s prospects were on full display. The likes of Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage caught a lot of people’s eyes.
