Bayer Leverkusen and the Netherlands star Jeremie Frimpong to hold talks with Manchester United after the World Cup

Manchester United have planned to hold talks with Bayer Leverkusen and the Netherlands star Jeremie Frimpong after the World Cup, according to Sky Germany via Florian Plettenberg on Twitter (h/t Express).

The Red Devils are ‘very interested’ in acquiring the right-back’s signature in the coming months and the player is ‘aware’ of the attention from the Premier League outfit. Thus, the 21-year-old is open to having a conversation with the Old Trafford side.

United are set to start negotiations for Frimpong after the prestigious tournament in Qatar. The defender’s move away from the Bundesliga outfit is ‘more than possible’ in 2023.

The 21-year-old came up through the youth ranks at Manchester City before moving to Celtic in the summer of 219. Subsequently, the right-back signed for Leverkusen in last year’s winter window.

Since then, the Holland international has impressed at the BayArena side. He has made a place for himself in the German club’s starting lineup over the years.

In the current campaign, Frimpong has once again been pivotal for Leverkusen. The 21-year-old has featured 21 times for the Bundesliga outfit in all competitions, scoring five goals and providing three assists.

The right-back made it to Loui van Gaal’s 26-man squad for the World Cup. However, he did not feature for the Netherlands at the World Cup in their first two fixtures in Group A.

Currently, Diogo Dalot is the first-choice right-back at United. The Portuguese has pipped Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the pecking order. It seems Erik ten Hag does not fancy the England U21 international, which has placed a burden on the former FC Porto star.

Dalot has started all but one game for the Red Devils this season. In the Portuguese star’s absence, Tyrell Malacia has had to become a makeshift right-back. However, this approach is not sustainable in the long run and adding someone like Frimpong to the squad would be a wise move.
