Newcastle United line up bid for Manchester United target and France striker Marcus Thuram
Manchester United are set to be rivalled by Newcastle United for the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach and France star Marcus Thuram, according to TeamTalk (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils are interested in acquiring the services of the 25-year-old in January. Currently, the striker is in the final year (transfermarkt) of his contract with the Bundesliga outfit.
However, the Magpies could spoil the Old Trafford side’s plans. Our Premier League rivals are set to put in a bid for the Gladbach forward and bring him to Tyneside.
Thuram joined the German club from French outfit Guingamp in the summer of 2019. Since then, he has been a regular in Die Fohlen’s starting lineup over the years.
The France international has been deployed on the wings for the majority of his stint at Gladbach. However, under former Norwich City manager Daniel Farke, the 25-year-old has been shifted to a central role.
As a result, Thuram has thrived with the Bundesliga outfit in the current campaign. In 17 appearances for the German club in all competitions, the striker has found the back of the net 13 times and has provided four assists.
The France international’s form has also attracted the attention of Didier Deschamps, who included the forward in Les Bleus’ World Cup squad. The 25-year-old came on as a substitute in the final minutes for France in their 4-1 win over Australia in Qatar.
Man United are in the market for a new forward after Cristiano Ronaldo’s untimely departure from the club. Currently, Anthony Martial is the only natural option for Erik ten Hag to play up front in the squad. Marcus Rashford has also been deployed in the number nine position to good effect.
