Juventus star Nicolo Fagioli turned down move to Manchester United early in his career
Nicolo Fagioli, who currently stars for Juventus, turned down a move to Manchester United during his time at Cremonese. Alessandro, the midfielder’s brother, has revealed that the 21-year-old turned down the Red Devils during his youth career.
In 2015, the Italy international ended up signing for the Old Lady. Over the years, he has made his way through the Serie A giants’ setup. And in the current campaign, the youngster has broken into the first team.
Speaking to Tuttosport (h/t The Sun), Alessandro disclosed that Fagioli rejected United because he did not want to leave Italy. And in the end, Juventus pipped the midfielder’s signature.
“Nicolo is a mummy’s boy, he has never liked distance. When he was at the Cremonese youth team, he said no to Manchester United, he didn’t feel ready to leave Italy.
“And for Juve he preferred to decline the interest of Inter, AC Milan and Atalanta.”
The 21-year-old made his debut for the Bianconeri in January 2021. Against SPAL in the Coppa Italia, the Italian came on in the final minutes of a 4-0 victory.
Last season, Fagioli spent time on loan back at Cremonese in Serie B. He made 33 appearances for the Lombardy-based club, scoring three goals and providing seven assists. He helped the Violins in their quest for promotion to the top flight.
The Italian has returned to Turin in the current campaign and has established himself in Massimilano Allegri’s plans. In recent weeks, the youngster has put in some eye-catching performances.
United’s midfield is stacked with quality. The likes of Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes have become Erik ten Hag’s first choice over the course of the season.
However, some fans feel our bench strength could improve. Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek have been in the squad for a long time now but have failed to impress.

Thus, adding youth to the engine room would be a wise option for the Red Devils. The Old Trafford side could evidently use some fresh blood in the middle of the park to change things.
