Cristiano Ronaldo hits out at Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney
Speaking in an interview with Piers Morgan (via The Sun), Cristiano Ronaldo has hit out at former Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney for the undue criticism that comes his way from the retired English star.
Ronaldo did not hold back in a stunning interview and one of the people at the end of his wrath was Wayne Rooney. The pair have had their share of problems over the years and Ronaldo does not like it one bit.
Rooney has called out Ronaldo on more than one occasion for different issues. The Portuguese superstar has now claimed that he does not understand why his former teammate is looking for every opportunity to pick on him.
Both prodigiously talented at a very young age, Ronaldo and Rooney are both 37 years old but their careers have taken completely different paths. Whilst Ronaldo is still going strong at the top level, Rooney has retired and moved into management.
The English superstar had a cruel twist with injuries throughout his career and really struggled towards his latter years. He eventually decided to call it quits and got into management with Derby County, although he is not managing any club right now.
Speaking about the Everton star, Ronaldo took a rather disrespectful jibe at his former teammate and said this.
“I don’t know why he criticises me so badly . . . probably because he finished his career and I’m still playing at high level. I’m not going to say that I’m looking better than him. Which is true . . .”
Ronaldo and Rooney have shared some amazing moments together in a Man United shirt during their time at the club but it does look like the pair’s relationship has grown fractious over the past few years and they do not really see eye to eye.
However, Ronaldo could have refrained from making such harsh comments about a legend of the game like Rooney. It is true that the Englishman retired much earlier but such comments really leave a sour taste in the mouth.

It looks like Ronaldo had a lot of pent-up frustration that he wanted to get off his chest. Rooney is just one of those who got caught in that rant even though he did make sense with his comments about the Portuguese icon – especially the ones where he questioned Ronaldo’s antics and claimed they weren’t acceptable at the club.
