Manchester United earmark Robert Sanchez as a potential replacement for David De Gea
According to Fichajes (h/t Manchester Evening News), fellow Spanish and Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Robert Sanchez is a potential candidate to replace David De Gea as the Manchester United number one.
The Red Devil ace’s future has been in doubt since Erik ten Hag took the reins as a club manager, mainly due to the keeper’s ability to play out from the back.
Although there is no doubt of the keeper’s magnificent shot-stopping abilities where he is undoubtedly one of the best in the world, question marks around his skills on the ball, which is a prerequisite in any Ten Hag team come to light more often than not.
Sanchez has improved heaps and bounds since his move to Brighton and is a key figure in the way the team has developed in recent years and become a real force.
Under former manager Graham Potter, it was essential that the team was able to comfortably play out from the back, which Sanchez has shown his skills time and time again.
It is not just his ability to be comfortable on the ball but also providing a commanding presence in the box, which has attracted many suitors and it would not be long before he moves to a big club.
Ideally, Sanchez could be the perfect successor to his fellow compatriot, who has been an able servant to the club and would forever be seen as one of the best ever to don the jersey.
However, football has changed a lot as compared to a decade back when Sir Alex Ferguson signed De Gea and although the player has stated his intention to stay, the fact that Ten Hag is still yet to decide whether he should be given another contract or not speaks a lot about the current situation.
Another potential name on the United transfer list has been that of FC Porto keeper Diogo Costa. But with the keeper signing a new long-term contract with the Portuguese club, it would be difficult to prise him away from the club.
