Diogo Dalot feels Manchester United can “learn” from 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League
Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot feels the team can “learn” from the 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League. The Portugal international was not pleased with how the second half started for the Red Devils.
The Old Trafford side took on the Claret and Blue at Villa Park on Sunday (6 November). Unai Emery’s team scored two quick goals in the initial stages of the fixture. However, Luke Shaw managed to half the deficit just before the break after his shot deflected off of Jacob Ramsay to beat Emiliano Martinez.
Unfortunately, Jacob Ramsay was able to restore Villa’s two-goal lead in the 49th minute. Speaking to MUTV (h/t Manchester Evening News) after the loss, Dalot expressed his disappointment with letting the Birmingham-based club take control of the game early after the break.
“It went against our plans, we wanted to come to the second half with control of the ball, score as soon as possible, but it was the opposite, it’s a lesson and a moment we have to look back and learn from it.”
United started the match poorly. Leon Bailey opened the scoring in the seventh minute. Lucas Digne then doubled the Claret and Blues’ lead in the 11th minute with a free-kick.
David de Gea has been brilliant for the Red Devils this season. The Spaniard has made some unbelievable saves to keep us in games. However, fans feel the 32-year-old could have done better in preventing the Birmingham-based club’s first two strikes from going into the back of the net.
Villa goalkeeper Martinez, on the other hand, made some good saves to fend off our attacks. Alejandro Garnacho, Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Elanga were all denied by the Argentine.
Shaw has managed to once again make a place for himself in Erik ten Hag’s starting XI after being left out for a few weeks in the initial stages of the campaign. However, the left-back had a poor outing in Emery’s first game in charge of the Lions.
