Daniel Campos reveals prior interest from Manchester United in his client Miguel Almiron
Manchester United held a prior interest in in-form Newcastle United forward Miguel Almiron, according to the 28-year-old’s agent Daniel Campos. The Red Devils were one of the Premier League clubs keeping an eye on the former Atlanta United star.
However, in the end, the Magpies snapped up the Paraguayan from the MLS outfit in January 2019. And he has had mixed seasons with the Toons over the years. But the forward has come into his own in the 2022/23 campaign.
Speaking to ABC Cardinal (h/t Manchester Evening News), Campos disclosed that the Old Trafford side were looking at Almiron’s signature. However, the Manchester-based club never made an offer for him.
“Miguel Almiron is a footballer who went from less to more, now he is a more complete footballer.
“There was interest shown by Manchester United in Miguel but they never made an offer. Arsenal and Southampton offered loan deals for him but we did not want it to be a loan.”
Under Eddie Howe this season, the Paraguayan has turned into a completely different player. He has scored some magnificent goals for the St James’ Park side in the current campaign.
The 28-year-old scored one Premier League goal in 30 appearances for the Magpies last season. Astonishingly, he has already found the back of the net seven times in 13 English top-flight outings this term.
Newcastle, as a whole, are doing extremely well this season. They are seemingly in the race for the top four and have put in encouraging performances against the likes of Manchester City, Man United and Tottenham Hotspur.
As far as the Red Devils are concerned, we signed Antony in the recent transfer window to bolster the frontline. And the Brazilian has been decent so far, scoring in his first three PL matches for the club.
The Old Trafford side have other options in the attack as well. Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial are all available.
