Manchester United could seal ‘bargain’ £25m transfer for 23-year-old star

Three Premier League clubs including Manchester United tipped to be 'right project' for Cody Gakpo.

Manchester United could land Cody Gakpo for a cut-price deal in the January transfer window

According to Dutch newspaper De Telegraf (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United could go back in for former transfer target Cody Gakpo in the January transfer window.

Erik ten Hag was keen to recruit Gakpo in the summer transfer window with the player also keen on the move, after holding positive talks with the manager. However, due to the increased prize tag for the transfer of Antony from Ajax, a move for the Holland star could not materialise.

It seems like Gakpo is still a target for United and could be available for a ‘bargain £25million‘ deal due to the fact that PSV Eindhoven are in serious need of an influx of funds due to off-field problems and 23-year-old Gakpo is one of their most valuable and prized assets.

Since his failed move, Gakpo has been sensational for club and country and has scored 13 goals and given 14 assists in 21 appearances already in the season, with his stock rising up exponentially over the past few months.

With his price tag set to fall and the player available for a bargain deal, it won’t be a surprise to see a bidding war for the Dutch international, who is set to represent his country in the FIFA World Cup in November.

One thing working in our favour is that the agents of Gakpo and Manchester United share a very good relationship with Ten Hag also being represented by the same agency.

United’s struggles in front of goal have been well documented where the team is lacking a clinical finisher after a subdued start for Cristiano Ronaldo and an injury-ridden season for Anthony Martial.

Gakpo, capable of playing from the left and centrally, has all the characteristics to lead the line for United and the way the forward has shown his talent this season, there is a belief that he could perform on the same level in England.

The team is showing signs of progress under Ten Hag and it feels like the good times are coming back to the Theatre of Dreams with the signings made under the manager already looking the part.

With Chelsea losing points against Brighton, the game against West Ham United presents us with a wonderful opportunity to close the gap to the top four.

Hopefully, the team continues its excellent run and gets all three points against former United manager David Moyes’s West Ham.
