Cady Gakpo situation has “completely changed” as Manchester United handed boost in pursuit of PSV Eindhoven star
Manchester United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo, with his situation “completely changed”. The 23-year-old’s current form has put the Red Devils in a better position to acquire his signature.
The Old Trafford side were close to getting a deal over the line for the Holland international in the recent transfer window. Unfortunately, we were left without enough funds after going all out to buy Antony from Ajax.
Leeds United and Southampton have been linked with Gakpo. However, it looks like a deal to a club of more considerable stature is on the cards for the forward.
Speaking on his Here We Go podcast (h/t Mirror), transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed it is going to be difficult for the Whites or the Saints to get the PSV star.
“Now what’s the situation? That Leeds are still hoping for Cody Gakpo.
“Southampton have been there for a long time. But from what I’m told now, the status of Cody Gakpo has completely, completely changed.
“So I think it’s going to be really difficult for Leeds and Southampton to go for Cody Gakpo and now there are top clubs following him not just in Premier League.”
Gakpo has been in scintillating form this season and it is no surprise that major clubs around Europe are keeping an eye on him. In 21 appearances for the Eredivisie outfit in the current campaign, the 23-year-old has registered 13 goals and provided 14 assists.
United’s current forward line consists of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony, who have played the majority of minutes in recent weeks. Erik ten Hag does not seem to trust Cristiano Ronaldo, while Anthony Martial has been plagued by fitness issues.
The Red Devils have potential future stars like Alejandro Garnacho and Anthony Elanga looking for opportunities in the team. However, they are evidently still not ready yet to play week in, week out.

Thus, it would be wise for the Old Trafford side to look for additional reinforcements for the attack. And Gakpo is someone who is proving to be an exciting player in the current campaign.
Hopefully, United are able to get a deal for the PSV star over the line in the coming transfer windows.
