Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle snub Cristiano Ronaldo after being offered Manchester United star
Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was offered to Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle United, but the three clubs snubbed the opportunity, according to The Sun (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The trio of Premier League clubs were presented with the option to secure the Portugal international’s signature ahead of the January transfer window. However, they decided against adding the 37-year-old to their respective squads.
Thus, with avenues in the English top flight not taking a chance on the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, a return to Italy is likely. Napoli are interested in bringing the forward back to the Serie A in the winter.
Ronaldo’s previous spell in Italy was with Juventus. The Portuguese star enjoyed a rather successful spell with the Old Lady, winning two Scudettos in his time in Turin.
Last year, the 37-year-old decided to come back to Manchester. The forward completed his homecoming, having left the club in 2009 to join Real Madrid.
Ronaldo ended the 2021/22 season as United’s top goalscorer. The 37-year-old was amongst the few players in a red shirt to fulfil fans’ expectations in the previous campaign.
However, with the appointment of Erik ten Hag, the Portuguese star has seen his game time dwindle. And the forward has also not been as clinical in front of goal this season.
The Dutch manager has opted to play Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial as the striker ahead of Ronaldo in the big games. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has started just two games in the Premier League in the current campaign.

Ten Hag does not seem to prefer the 37-year-old to start week in, week out for his team. The Portuguese star is one of the best players of all time. It would only be wise if both parties could find an amicable solution to the current situation. If that means Ronaldo has to leave, then so be it.
