Manchester United ask for information about Inter Milan and Argentina forward Lautaro Martinez

Manchester United have ‘asked for first-hand information’ on Inter Milan and Argentina centre-forward Lautaro Martinez, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Red Devils, along with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain are interested in the 25-year-old. Against Barcelona at Camp Nou in the group stage of the Champions League, the Argentine was brilliant, putting him ‘back in fashion’ with some top sides.

Martinez scored and assisted for the Nerazzurri against the Blaugrana in a mesmerising 3-3 draw. The Serie A outfit are now on the verge of qualifying for the round of 16 at the expense of the Spanish giants.

The 25-year-old joined Inter in the summer of 2018 from Argentine outfit Racing Club. His debut season was a bit underwhelming. However, since then, the centre-forward has gotten himself on the scoresheet regularly.

In the previous campaign, Martinez featured in 35 Serie A games for Inter. The Argentine ended with 21 goals and three assists for the Nerazzurri in the top flight.

Martinez has once again been an important member of Simone Inzaghi’s team this season. The 25-year-old has played in every match for the Serie A club this season. In 13 appearances in all competitions, the Argentine has four goals and two assists.

Erik ten Hag has mainly played with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in the number nine position. And the English and French duo have done well. However, the former AS Monaco star has had fitness issues in the current campaign.

Cristiano Ronaldo, on the other hand, has fallen down the pecking order. The Dutch manager has started the five-time Ballon d’Or winner just once in the Premier League this season.

The Red Devils seemingly need someone up top, a target man. And Martinez is a quality player who is a regular for the Argentina national team. But it remains to be seen whether United will pursue his signature in the future.
