Erik ten Hag hopeful about Raphael Varane injury but rules out Harry Maguire and two others for Manchester United vs Everton
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is hopeful about Raphael Varane coming back from injury for Manchester United vs Everton. However, the Dutch manager has ruled out Harry Maguire, Donny van de Beek and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from the tie.
The 2018 World Cup winner with France limped off before half-time at the Etihad Stadium on 2 October against Manchester City. The Sky Blues beat us 6-3 as our defence faltered.
United face Everton next on 9 October at Goodison Park. And speaking to the media (h/t Express) ahead of the fixture via the Express, Ten Hag admitted that Varane’s involvement would be a tight call. However, other injured stars will not be available.
“Varane has made progress and I hope he’s available, but I think it will be close.
“From the other players, Harry Maguire is not, then it’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Donny van de Beek – both are also not available.”
Wan-Bissaka and Van de Beek have not seen much game time this season. As a result, the duo found themselves on the bench on most occasions when they were fit.
Maguire has also lost his place in the starting XI in recent weeks. The 29-year-old started the first two games under the new gaffer. However, since then, our captain has not been able to establish himself again with the team.
The England international picked up a knock on international duty. Maguire started in both of the Three Lions’ recent fixtures in the UEFA Nations League. Unfortunately, it was in the 3-3 draw against Germany that the 29-year-old got injured.
Varane has formed a solid partnership with Lisandro Martinez. The French and Argentine duo have started the last five games for the Red Devils in the Premier League. The only blemish was the game at the Etihad.
