Owen Hargreaves and Paul Scholes praise Manchester United star Marcus Rashford for Omonia Nicosia performance

Former Manchester United stars Owen Hargreaves and Paul Scholes have hailed Marcus Rashford for his performance against Omonia Nicosia. The England international was pivotal as the Red Devils managed a 3-2 victory against the Cypriot opposition.

United travelled to the GSP Stadium to face Omonia in the third match of the group stages of the Europa League. The team from Cyprus took a surprising early lead in the 34th minute. The Old Trafford side went into the break 1-0 down.

Rashford came on at the start of the second half in place of an underwhelming Jadon Sancho and quickly equalised. He set up Anthony Martial for the second goal and found the back of the net again. Speaking after the game on BT Sport via Metro, Hargreaves thought the 24-year-old was “fantastic”.

“I thought Rashford looked fantastic when he came on. He looked sharp, he looked quick and explosive. He was by far the best player on the pitch when he came on.”

Rashford was vital for United

Rashford was dropped to the bench against Omonia. Cristiano Ronaldo made his way into the starting lineup. However, the Portuguese snatched at a few chances. The 24-year-old United academy graduate saved face for us against the Cypriot opposition.

It was Rashford’s first appearance in this season’s UEL for United. And the England international bagged a brace and an assist. The 24-year-old scored in the 53rd minute to level the proceedings and gave the Red Devils a two-goal cushion with an 84th-minute strike.

Scholes, who spent his entire playing career with United, was delighted with Martial and Rashford’s impact. The two substitutes changed the game for the Old Trafford side.

“That’s what you want from your subs. They changed the game.

“Rashford looked really lively, he was as lively as we’ve seen him this season. Martial scored a good goal as well.”

Tyrell Malacia had another poor showing after he struggled against Manchester City in the 6-3 defeat. The left-back was hooked off at the break for Luke Shaw.

Ten Hag also started Casemiro from the start. However, the Brazilian was nothing special. Scott McTominay replaced him in the 82nd minute.
