Patrice Evra believes Manchester United duo Antony and Tyrell Malacia got wake-up call against Manchester City
Manchester United icon Patrice Evra believes Antony and Tyrell Malacia got a wake-up call against Manchester City. The former France international who played for the Red Devils feels the new signings got a reality check.
Antony and Malacia arrived at United in the recent transfer window from the Eredivisie. The Holland international has enjoyed a consistent run in the starting lineup. The Brazilian winger started off his career in Manchester with a debut goal against Arsenal.
However, the high-flying duo were given a taste of the Premier League as United visited the Etihad Stadium. Pep Guardiola’s team humbled the Red Devils as the game ended 6-3. Speaking to Betfair (h/t Manchester Evening News), Evra thinks that the Old Trafford side lacked belief.

“I absolutely agree with Ten Hag, there was no belief, this is the Premier League and I think for some new players like Malacia and Antony, they were having fun but I think after that game they are going to say: ‘OK, this is not the Dutch league, this is the Premier League.”
United were poor against City
City were quick off the gates as they controlled most of the play. Phil Foden eventually opened the scoring for the Sky Blues early on. Then, Erling Haaland scored two quick goals after the half-hour mark. And the England international got his brace just before the end of the first half.
Malacia was hooked off at half-time, with Luke Shaw replacing the Holland international. And it was United who scored first in the second 45. Antony beat Ederson from almost 25 yards out.
However, it was not long before Haaland got his hat trick. Foden also followed it up for his first three-goal haul in a blue shirt.

Our attack was unable to make an impact. And Erik ten Hag decided to bring on Anthony Martial for Marcus Rashford. The French forward scored two late goals. Surprisingly, Cristiano Ronaldo remained on the bench.

Our new signing from Ajax did not have the best of games. While he did find the back of the net, the Brazilian’s overall play was poor. Antony and Malacia had a bad day at the office. But hopefully, the two will be able to bounce back.
