Wayne Rooney tells Manchester United to stop Man City’s Erling Haaland in derby
Speaking in an interview with the Times (Subscription Required), Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney tells Manchester United how to stop Manchester City striker Erling Haaland in the Manchester derby set to take place in the Premier League today.
The biggest topic ahead of the derby today has been how Manchester United are going to stop the unstoppable force, Erling Haaland. The Norwegian superstar seems to be showing no signs of slowing down and is going at a breakneck speed.
The former Dortmund man has dismissed all claims that he could take time to settle into English football and has hit the ground running almost instantly. His instant impact has made Manchester City look so much more dangerous.

One of the biggest transfers that happened this summer, huge expectations were placed on Erling Haaland when he made the move to Manchester and it is safe to say that the 22-year-old has already matched them and gone way beyond it.
Haaland is absolutely rocking this season. He has adapted to Pep’s system seamlessly and already looks like he has been here for a long time. In 10 games this season, he has scored 14 goals and provided one assist across all competitions.
Erik ten Hag will undoubtedly be breaking his head over how to stop the Man City number nine and a former Man United striker who terrorized opposition defences in a similar manner, Wayne Rooney has offered him advice.
“I’m sure Ten Hag will be telling his full backs and wide players to stop crosses and I think that is where the match will be won and lost – if United can play Haaland out of the game, they’ll have a big chance”

It is interesting that Rooney has really pointed at the full-backs and not the centre-backs as the key factor in stopping Erling Haaland. The former Red Devils superstar thinks that stopping crosses into the box could be key and he is not entirely wrong.
Ten Hag is likely going to start Diogo Dalot and Tyrell Malacia as the two options for right and left-back respectively. Malacia has been really impressive for the Red Devils, and Dalot has been decent too.

However, Man City are a completely different proposition to face. If the duo can emerge out of this test with flying colours, then there is a chance that the Norwegian superstar is kept quiet throughout the match. It remains to be seen how this battle pans out though.
