Club News: Erik ten Hag has insisted that he made the right choice by joining Manchester United
Erik ten Hag has insisted that he made the right choice by joining Manchester United this summer. This is despite being framed as the potential successor for Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
But that door has now closed. When asked about this, as quoted in the Mirror, the United boss said that he has no regrets about taking on United and its challenges, rather than wait to succeed Guardiola.
“That’s a nice compliment, first. But I choose, 100 percent convinced, Manchester United, with everything in it. I didn’t regret it for one second.”
Ten Hag has previously worked with Guardiola at Bayern Munich from 2013 to 2015. The City boss, who is in the final year of his current contract had earlier said that the 52-year-old has the credentials to take over from him at City.
“Could Erik Ten Hag be here at City? Definitely. I think he could be the one, for the way he approaches the game.”
Both the managers are set to go head-to-head this Sunday when their teams take on each other for the Manchester Derby. While United have the edge in the overall wins, this City team are a force to reckon with and Ten Hag will know that.
The two neighbours have met each other 47 times in the Premier League era. The Red Devils have won 23 times while the Cityzens have won only 15. The remaining 9 matches have ended in a draw.
United will hope to extend that lead against their neighbours this Sunday. Both teams have been in good form in the league and this could be a very entertaining derby.
We’re glad that Ten Hag chose us over any other potential option he may have had. The game against City will arguably be his first real test at the club with regards to his management capabilities in the biggest of games.

Under Sir Alex Ferguson, we used to go into each game wanting to win and more often than not, we did. It’s unfair to put those expectations on Ten Hag so early on in his tenure but there is no doubt that the Scotsman is the manager he would have been told to replicate when he joined us – at least in terms of winning silverware.
