Club News: Christian Eriksen has responded to debate around his playing position at Manchester United
Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has opened up on what he believes is his best position at the club.
The midfielder joined United this summer on a free transfer from Brentford. Since his arrival, there were questions about what role he would play since Bruno Fernandes had been playing as the number 10 for the club.
Eriksen has mainly been playing as a deep-lying midfielder along with Scott McTominay in the middle of the park for the Red Devils. Now, the 30-year-old addressed the matter in an interview with MUTV (h/t Manchester Evening News).
“I don’t know, I’m quite surprised about all the positional things. All the games, even when I was at Spurs, I started as a winger but would often drop down to get the ball, collect it and help the build-up back then so that hasn’t really changed in that sense.”
Since joining the club, the Danish international has been one of our best players. Eriksen has completely transformed the United midfield with McTominay as his usual partner.
He has started in all eight games for the club so far in all competitions. While he is yet to find the back of the net, his role as a deep-lying playmaker has amazed spectators and exceeded expectations.
A fan-favourite already, the Dane also was named United’s player of the month for September by the fans. It is clear that Erik ten Hag’s tactics have worked perfectly and the current role suits the 30-year-old attacking midfielder.
The midfielder was also called up for international duty last month. He played in both the games for Denmark against Croatia and France for their UEFA Nations League group stage games. The Dane scored in the 2-1 defeat to Croatia while playing an important part in the 2-0 win against France.
