Club News: Bruno Fernandes wants to stay at Manchester United long-term
In what will come as good news to the Manchester United fans, Bruno Fernandes has revealed that he wants to stay at the club for a long time.
The midfielder signed a new deal in March, earlier this year extending his stay at the club till the summer of 2026. He is very comfortable in Manchester and has embraced the culture of the community.
Fernandes also revealed that his family is very happy here and he wishes to have his kids grow up in Manchester. Speaking to in-house media (h/t Manchester Evening News), the 28-year-old gave his thoughts.
“I want to be here for many years. I want to have some stability for my family. We like to be here, we like to be in this country, we want to have the family established here and the kids growing up here, having their friends, being happy. That’s the most important thing for us.”
The Portuguese international joined United in January 2020 for an initial fee of £46.6 million. He also revealed that playing for the Red Devils was a dream of his.
“Being a kid in Portugal, watching the Premier League and watching the club, it was always a dream to come to the Theatre of Dreams, Old Trafford, and to experience that.”
A fan favourite on this side of the city, the midfielder was an instant hit at the club. He has established himself as a regular player since joining and has made 134 appearances for the Reds in all competitions, scoring 51 goals in the process.
Now, his wanting to play for the club as long as possible will come as very good news to Erik ten Hag. Despite getting off to a rough start this season, the team has bounced back and has won four league games on the trot.
Fernandes has been crucial in all those games and will look to continue that form. The 28-year-old is almost guaranteed to travel with the Portugal national team for the World Cup later in November this year.
