Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez stuck in the UK and unable to link up with Argentina teammates
Lisandro Martinez is stuck in the UK and the Manchester United defender has been unable to link up with his Argentina teammates. Visa issues have meant the 24-year-old has been unable to travel to the United States for the upcoming friendlies, according to TyC Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News).
Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cristian Romero has also not been able to travel. The US embassy has been closed in England due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Argentina are set to face Honduras and Jamaica in the US. However, it remains to be seen whether the two Premier League centre-backs are able to meet up with La Albiceleste.
Martinez made his way to Manchester from Ajax in the recent transfer window. The Argentine has reunited with former manager Erik ten Hag. The two spent three seasons together in Amsterdam before moving to United.
The 24-year-old centre-back has been an ever-present in our backline this season. The Dutch manager has preferred the Argentine over the other options at his disposal.
United’s campaign started on a sour note. We lost against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford. The Bees scored four past us in the opening 35 minutes at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Supporters pointed fingers at our defence that included Harry Maguire and Martinez. However, since then, the Argentine has shined in the backline.
Ten Hag relegated the club captain to the bench and brought Raphael Varane to the starting lineup. The France international has formed a solid partnership with Martinez.
