AS Roma to contact Manchester United for Victor Lindelof
According to Rudy Galetti (h/t Football London), AS Roma could contact Manchester United for centre-back Victor Lindelof in the upcoming January transfer window.
Jose Mourinho was keen to add to his defensive ranks in the summer and Roma’s start to the season where the team has not looked defensively solid is a critical factor for the need for defensive reinforcements.
Alongside Lindelof, Tottenham Hotspur’s Japhet Tanganga and Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah are also considered by the Italian side.
Victor Lindelof was brought to Manchester United by Jose Mourinho and the Portuguese manager is vary of the defender’s abilities and what he can offer to Roma.
After making a name for himself in the Liga Nos with Benfica, Manchester United paid £31m to acquire the Swedish defender’s services.
Fair to say, his first season at Manchester United was not good as the player was unable to adapt to the physicality and intensity of the Premier League and was caught out on multiple occasions.
His performances levelled up in the following seasons with the defender able to showcase his comfort in playing out from the back and was a mainstay in defence under Jose Mourinho and also Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Current Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has somewhat established his preferred defensive set-up in Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, with Lindelof now fourth in the pecking order of the team’s centre-backs.
This is in stark contrast to the previous seasons where Lindelof has been a part of the Manchester United starting-line ups and surely would be upsetting for the player.
Lindelof is a good player to have as a fourth-choice centre-back and it remains to be seen if United will let him leave mid-season especially if they don’t already have a replacement in mind.
