Lisandro Martinez reveals ‘simple’ decision to join ‘best club in the world’ Manchester United
Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez has revealed that it was an easy decision to choose the Red Devils in the recent transfer window. The Argentine feels the Old Trafford side is the best in the world.
Martinez joined United in the summer from Ajax for £57million. The 24-year-old had previously played under Erik ten Hag in Amsterdam and reunited with the Dutch manager in Manchester.
Arsenal were one of the clubs serious about getting the Argentine defender. The Gunners made two offers for the 24-year-old. However, they were below the number Ajax had in mind.
Speaking on why he decided to come to Manchester via the Express, Martinez revealed it was simple to choose the best club in the world, United. The Argentine also gave a shout-out to fans for their support.
“I chose Manchester United because it is the best club in the world. That is it. It was that simple for me. It is the best club in the world. Every game you can feel the support of the people.”
Martinez has quickly settled into the Red Devils’ side. The Argentine is the first name on the teamsheet for Ten Hag. And the 24-year-old has repaid that trust with his performances.
Initially, Martinez had a shaky start to life in Manchester. The season started off on the wrong foot United. First, Brighton & Hove Albion came to Old Trafford and beat the Red Devils 2-1 in the Dutch manager’s first competitive game in charge.
Then, United visited the Gtech Community Stadium. And the Bees made easy work of the Red Devils. The West London side scored four goals past us in the opening 35 minutes.
The Argentine centre-back started alongside Harry Maguire in both fixtures. And people started criticising and pointing fingers at the 24-year-old. However, the gaffer made some important decisions subsequently.
Our captain was dropped to the bench and replaced by Raphael Varane. Since then, our defence has looked much more solid. The Red Devils have won every single game the French and Argentine centre-backs have started.
