Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix unaware of interest from Manchester United during the summer transfer window
Manchester United offered Atletico Madrid £113 million for Joao Felix during the summer transfer window. However, the Portuguese claims he was unaware of the Red Devils’ interest.
Felix joined the Spanish giants in 2019 from SL Benfica for big money. However, over the years, the 22-year-old has had ups and downs in his career at the Metropolitano Stadium.
Speaking to Marca (h/t Express), when asked about the interest from United, Felix asserted that he had no idea about it. The Portuguese suggested it was not something for him to look after.
“I didn’t hear anything, that was something for the president to deal with. I am here.”
Felix has started the new season on the front foot for the Rojiblancos. The 22-year-old provided three assists in the opening game of the new season in La Liga. And Erik ten Hag was keen on bringing the Portuguese youngster to Old Trafford.
United were seemingly in need of offensive reinforcements during the summer. And Felix was evidently someone the Red Devils had an eye on to bolster the front line.
During the course of the summer, United saw a lot of players depart the club. Amongst them was centre-forward Edinson Cavani, who left the Manchester-based club as a free agent at the end of last season.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s future was also apparently uncertain. The five-time Ballon d’Or missed most of pre-season under the new gaffer. However, the 37-year-old ended up staying at the club.
United made just one addition to the attack during the transfer window. Ten Hag reunited with Antony as the Ajax forward arrived a few days before deadline day. The Dutch manager has also been able to get the best out of the likes of Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.

Felix is someone with massive potential. However, whether he is able to fulfil expectations remains to be seen. It will be interesting to see if United pursue the 22-year-old’s signature once again in the future.
