Olympique Marseille defender Eric Bailly reflects on his “very good” spell at Manchester United
Manchester United defender Eric Bailly, who is on loan at Olympique Marseille, reflected positively on his six-year spell at Old Trafford. The Ivory Coast international is satisfied with the time he spent with the Red Devils.
Bailly made his move to United in 2016 from Villarreal. The 28-year-old had a decent debut season under Jose Mourinho. However, injuries marred his career in later years.
Bailly has made his way to France this season. Marseille have the option to make his move permanent at the end of the loan. Speaking to La Provence (h/t Manchester Evening News), Bailly had nothing but good things to say about his stay in Manchester.
“My time at Manchester United was very good.
“I had the chance to win trophies. They progressed in various areas and I wish them good luck.”
United have an evidently deep bench at the moment when it comes to the centre-back position. Erik ten Hag has brought in his former Ajax star Lisandro Martinez to the club.
The Argentine has started every game under the Dutch manager in the Premier League until now. And the 24-year-old has been effectively partnered by Raphael Varane.
The French World Cup winner made his way to Old Trafford last summer. His debut campaign was affected by little niggles. However, the former Real Madrid star has come in and made a difference this season.
With the partnership of Varane and Martinez, United have gone on a four-game win streak after a disappointing start under Ten Hag. Losing the first two fixtures led to the Dutch manager making big changes.
Harry Maguire is the one who has been replaced in the XI. The captain is another option Ten Hag has in the squad. Victor Lindelof is another name for the centre-back position.

With so many players at the gaffer’s disposal, Bailly would have seemingly found it hard to get game time. Hopefully, the Ivorian gets the chance at Marseille to shine and is able to get back to his best.
