Transfer News: Sunderland closing on a move to sign young Manchester United attacker Amad Diallo on loan
According to journalist Craig Hope of the Daily Mail, Sunderland are closing in on a move to sign Manchester United winger Amad Diallo on loan this summer.
The Ivory Coast international joined the Red Devils in a much-hyped move in January 2020. He cost the club £37million in transfer fees despite not even featuring for Atalanta in Serie A that often.
He was destined for great things, but his career at Man United is yet to take off. He has one goal and one assist in nine senior appearances for the club.
He was sent on loan to Rangers last season but failed to make an impression there as well, scoring thrice in 13 appearances for the club. In his defence, he is still very young.
Diallo off to Sunderland?
After signing Diallo, the club went on to sign Jadon Sancho last summer. During this time, Swedish winger Anthony Elanga also started to make an impression, and he has had minutes under Erik ten Hag this season.
Antony’s imminent arrival from Ajax will push him further down the pecking order. Hence, a temporary move away from Old Trafford would make sense for all parties, especially for the 20-year-old.
Sunderland are currently 14th in the Championship after mustering just eight points from six league games so far. Diallo would hope to get some starts in manager Alex Neil’s side.

He is a pacy customer who loves taking on defenders. This kind of dynamism could be effective for the Championship club down the flanks but it still remains to be seen if an official agreement can be reached before the transfer window deadline on September 1.
