Transfer News: Manchester United accept Everton offer for James Garner
Manchester United have accepted a £15million offer from Everton for midfielder James Garner, as claimed by Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.
The English midfielder was pursued by multiple clubs but the Toffees have seemingly won the race for his services. The Red Devils have also put a buyback clause in Garner’s contract.
The 21-year-old midfielder is yet to start this season and it was unlikely that he would have gotten playing time under manager Erik ten Hag had he stayed at Old Trafford.
The Dutchman hasn’t shown faith in him to play him in even one league game so far. It is strange to see the Englishman’s career turn a corner so quickly.
Last season, the Red Devils’ midfield was often criticised under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Then, it was felt that Garner, who was on loan at Nottingham Forest, could be a candidate to return and start for the club.
Good move for Garner
However, a change in management and the arrival of Christian Eriksen made his task seemingly tougher. Donny van de Beek also returned from his loan spell at Everton for a new lease of life under Ten Hag – his manager from Ajax Amsterdam.
Everton have had a shocking start to the season and have basically continued their form from the last campaign, where they nearly avoided relegation.
Garner won’t have it easy under manager Frank Lampard as well, as the Toffees have a plethora of midfielders in their team. Allan, Andre Gomes, newly-signed Amadou Onana, Tom Davies, and Abdoulaye Doucourre will all want to be regular starters for Everton.
