Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves admits he wants to leave with Manchester United interested
Manchester United target Ruben Neves has revealed that he had decided to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of last season. However, the Portuguese is still with the Molineux Stadium side, with the transfer window nearing its deadline.
Neves joined Wolves in the summer of 2017 when they were still in the Championship. Since then, the 25-year-old has become a talisman at the Wanderers.
Speaking to The Times (h/t Express), Neves claimed that he wanted to end his stint with Wolves after six years at the club. The Portuguese has been made the captain for the Wanderers. However, he hasn’t ruled out a move.
“Well, let’s see what happens.
“I try to focus 100 per-cent on my football and I had a good start to the season but we need results now.”
“If you ask me at the end of last season I would have said to you: ‘I will leave’, but I’m still here, so we never know what’s going to happen.”
Over the years, Neves has developed himself into one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. And his form has attracted interest from the likes of United, Liverpool and Arsenal.
The 25-year-old appears to be ready for a new challenge. However, it seems Wolves’ £100 million price tag has discouraged potential suitors from pursuing the Portugal international’s signature.
Under Nuno Espirito Santo and Bruno Lage, Neves has regularly been a part of the Wanderers’ XI. Since arriving from FC Porto in 2017, the 25-year-old has only grown from strength to strength every season.
United’s midfield situation at the moment is mixed. The club have signed Christian Eriksen and Casemiro this summer. The Brazilian has been one of the best defensive midfielders in the world over the years. However, Fred and McTominay aren’t trusted by fans.
The Denmark international was one of the best-attacking midfielders in the world during his time at Tottenham Hotspur. The 30-year-old has also shown his qualities playing in a deeper role under Erik ten Hag.
