Jorge Mendes pushing hard to complete the proposed Cristiano Ronaldo and Victor Osimhen swap
According to the Italian publication II Mattino (h/t Express), Napoli have been told by Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes that Manchester United will be making a bid for Victor Osimhen in the proposed swap which would see Ronaldo move to Naples.
It is no secret that Ronaldo has stated his desire to leave Manchester United this summer in order to play Champions League football, which United currently cannot offer.
Jorge Mendes is pushing very hard to secure a move for Ronaldo in a Champions League playing side and with the transfer window coming to an end, it seems that Napoli is his most likely destination.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s wage demands are one of the major reasons that many teams have opted out to sign the Portuguese superstar and it is now claimed that the Glazers are willing to pay 80% of his salary in case a move to Napoli bears fruition.
Another factor is that Victor Osimhen is currently leading the attack at Napoli, he was bought for a club record €70m from Lille and has impressed in his time there. Hence, there is no urgency on Napoli to sell their forward.
However, it seems likely that they are open to negotiations for a proposed move that could see Ronaldo and Osimhen switch sides. Here is what the Napoli manager had to say about the rumours:
“If you’re asking me if I’d like to work with Ronaldo, I tell you no coach would say no to that.
With a player like Osimhen, who is so talented, we know there is the permanent risk (of a transfer)”

With less than a week to go until the transfer market shuts, it is unusual for a manager to speak openly about a possible departure of a star player unless they are willing to let the player go for the right price. This is exactly what the situation speaks about.
Victor Osimhen is a boyhood United fan and could have had his dream transfer before making the move to Napoli due to the respect he had for Odion Ighalo who was playing for Manchester United and he did not want to be a competition with his senior colleague.
He has another opportunity now to secure a move to his dream club and the chance to lead the line under a new manager is something he would relish.

Now, it remains to be seen that with such less time remaining in the transfer window plus the fact that right now we are focusing on other priority targets, it would be surprising if a motion proposing a Ronaldo-Osimhen swap comes to fruition.
