Bruno Fernandes gives cryptic response on the future of Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United
Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has given a cryptic response when asked about the future of fellow compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United.
The 37-year-old has been looking for a way out of Old Trafford during the transfer window. Ronaldo missed most of the pre-season under new manager Erik ten Hag in a bid to force a move.
Speaking to Eleven Sports (h/t Metro), Fernandes suggested that he knew things about his compatriot’s future at United. However, the 27-year-old feels only Ronaldo can talk about it.
“There is a lot of speculation, but there is no one better than Cristiano to talk about it.
“I may know a thing or two, but I won’t be the one to say it.”
The 37-year-old ended the previous campaign as our top goalscorer in all competitions. Ronaldo was the one who carried the attack. The rest of the forward line failed to make a considerable contribution. Ultimately, we failed to finish in the top four in the Premier League.
Ronaldo in Ten Hag’s plans at United?
Under Ten Hag, the legendary number seven has started just one league game out of the three we’ve played. United lost their first two games of the season. The Brentford loss was the most heartbreaking. And Ronaldo started against the Bees.
Fernandes believes the 37-year-old can contribute to the team if he stays. However, the Portugal international isn’t committing to his compatriot’s future in Manchester.
“He can continue at a high level and give us a lot of goals but it’s his decision.
“We have to respect what he wants to do, whatever he wants to do.
“If he’s going to stay, we’ll be happy about it, if he’s going to leave because he thinks it’s best for him, I’ll be personally happy for him.”
After losing the first two games, the new gaffer came up against Liverpool. Ten Hag made some crucial decisions. One of them was to drop Ronaldo to the bench. United ended up winning their first game of the season against the Merseysiders.
Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, who’ve looked low on confidence, started up front alongside Anthony Elanga. The English duo scored a goal each. The game ended 2-1 in our favour.
