Manchester United authorise budget of around £7 million for new backup goalkeeper this summer
Manchester United are looking to add another goalkeeper to the squad this transfer window after the executives sanctioned a budget of around £7 million, according to Laurie Whitewell and Dan Sheldon via UtdPlug on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils are in search of a new number two to back up David de Gea. Initially, a budget of £1 million was allotted to get in a new shot-stopper. But it’s been increased now.
United let go of Dean Henderson on loan this summer. In the previous campaign, the 25-year-old played second fiddle under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

Henderson joined Nottingham Forest after failing to get many minutes in Manchester. After his impressive spell with Sheffield United, supporters thought the 25-year-old was destined for United’s number one spot.
De Gea, at the time, was struggling for form. The Spaniard had a particularly hard time in between the sticks for the Red Devils after the 2018 World Cup. And the 31-year-old appeared to be on the verge of losing his place in the Manchester-based club’s XI.
In the 2020/21 campaign, Henderson came back to United. The England international shared minutes with De Gea in all competitions in his first full season at the club.
But the 2021/22 season saw Henderson get relegated to just a few appearances. The 25-year featured just five times for the Red Devils in all competitions.
Our number one right now is the Spaniard. The 31-year-old had a resurgence in his United career. De Gea was one of the few players who performed up to the mark in the previous campaign.
