Manchester United offered chance to sign Alvaro Morata from Atletico Madrid this summer
Manchester United have been given an opportunity to sign former Chelsea ace and current Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, according to ESPN (h/t Metro).
The Red Devils have been after a centre-forward this summer. After failing to get a few deals over the line for a number nine, United have now been offered the Spanish forward.
The former Real Madrid star has been at top clubs his entire career. Morata has previously spent two seasons in the Premier League with Chelsea. The striker has also had two separate spells at Juventus.
The 29-year-old has spent the last two campaigns on loan with the Old Lady from Atletico. But now, the Spaniard has returned to Madrid. And Atletico are said to be keen on offloading him.
United are in desperate need of a centre-forward. Anthony Martial got injured before the first game of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion. Erik ten Hag opted to start Christian Eriksen as a false nine.
Cristiano Ronaldo missed out on a starting spot. The Portuguese missed the majority of the pre-season under the new gaffer. And Ten Hag decided to keep the star on the bench, although he did feature in the second half.
Apart from the two options, United don’t have a natural striker to play up front. The need for a number nine was evident as the Red Devils looked lacklustre against Brighton.
Ten Hag ended up losing his first competitive game in the Old Trafford dugout. Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho looked to have left behind last season’s disappointment during the pre-season. But the duo lacked an impact against the Seagulls.

Reinforcements are required to bolster the attack. United need a prolific striker to put the ball in the back of the net and it remains to be seen how fans will react to this news.
During his time in England, Morata wasn’t exactly known for being prolific. He, however, does tend to win trophies with most clubs where he is at, and has two UEFA Champions League trophies to his name- both with Real Madrid.
