Manchester United left-back Alex Telles leaves on season-long loan with Sevilla paying his full wages
Manchester United left-back Alex Telles has joined Sevilla on a season-long loan. According to Manchester Evening News, the Andalusians have agreed to cover the Brazilian’s full wages during his time in Spain.
Telles joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2020 from FC Porto. The 29-year-old has a contract at the club until 2024. The Brazilian joins Sevilla, but there’s no option in the deal for the Spanish side to buy him.
Telles’ debut season in Manchester was nothing special. Luke Shaw was the first-team left-back for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and played the majority of the season. The England international started 30 games in the Premier League in the 2020/21 campaign.
Telles, on the other hand, had sporadic chances here and there. The Brazilian started just eight league games in the 2020/21 season. The 29-year-old played a role in the European cup competitions as United competed in both the Champions League and Europa League.
But the former Porto star got a run of games last season. Shaw returned after an impressive Euro 2020 and looked set to once again be in the Man United XI. Injuries, however, hampered his excellent run of form.
Telles started 18 league games for the Red Devils in the 2021/22 campaign. The Brazilian got a good run of games towards the end of the season under interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
However, even after having the opportunity in the previous campaign to make a mark in a red shirt, Telles failed to take the opportunity to solidify his position. Fans haven’t seen enough defensively from the 29-year-old to consider him a nailed-on starter.

Erik ten Hag signed Tyrell Malacia this summer and the Dutch left-back is seen as a promising prospect. Lisandro Martinez has also arrived from Ajax and is capable of being deployed in the left of the back four.
Thus, Telles has been allowed to leave the club this summer. Hopefully, the Brazilian gets more playing time at Sevilla and comes back stronger at the end of next season.
