According to Calciomercato via SocCity (h/t Manchester Evening News), AS Roma are confident about signing Eric Bailly from Manchester United in this summer transfer window,

The Giallorossi are managed by former Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese signed the Ivory Coast international in 2016 during his stint in the Old Trafford dugout from La Liga outfit Villarreal.

The Stadio Olimpico side want to sign the 28-year-old from the Red Devils on loan and are seemingly optimistic about getting a deal done. However, they face competition from several clubs interested in the Ivorian, including Fulham.

United have brought in a couple of reinforcements for the backline this summer as of yet. The transfer window has seen the arrival of left-back Tyrell Malacia and versatile defender Lisandro Martinez.

The Argentine has been signed from Erik ten Hag’s former club Ajax. The 24-year-old played under the Dutch manager for three seasons in Amsterdam. Martinez now reunites with his former boss.

The other options at Ten Hag’s disposal include World Cup winner Raphael Varane. The Frenchman came to Manchester last summer. However, injuries hampered the 29-year-old’s debut season in a red shirt.

Eric Bailly hasn’t featured much for Manchester United over the years.

Harry Maguire is the Man United captain and the leader in the backline. But fans haven’t felt the England international has led by example when considering his performances for the Red Devils in the previous campaign.

United had a bad defensive record last season, conceding 57 goals in the Premier League campaign. As a result, we finished the league campaign with a goal difference of zero. Victor Lindelof also played a significant role in the Red Devils’ backline.
