Memphis Depay reveals to Barcelona teammates his will to stay as Manchester United links persist
Memphis Depay has told the players at Barcelona that he is willing to stay with the Blaugrana next season amidst Manchester United links. The Dutch forward has informed his teammates that “even if six forwards come, I will continue”, according to Sport (h/t Express).
Depay isn’t worried about the incoming attackers at Camp Nou. The signings of Lewandowski and Raphinha haven’t seemed to sway the 28-year-old’s mind.
But the Dutch forward has garnered interest from within the Premier League. Tottenham Hotspur and United have been linked with the Dutch international.
The Red Devils had previously signed Depay from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2015. But the relationship quickly turned sour and the 28-year-old left Manchester for Olympique Lyon in January 2017.
In his time with United, the Holland international featured in 53 games, scoring seven goals and providing six assists.
Depay joined Barcelona last summer on a free transfer. His time in Lyon was impressive, prompting the Spanish giants to bring the Dutch national to Camp Nou. The 28-year-old played an important role in the Barcelona side in the first half of the season.
Under Ronald Koeman, Depay became a prominent part of the team. But his second half in the previous campaign was marred by injuries, with Xavi preferring other options. Nevertheless, the Dutch forward ended the season as one of Barcelona’s top goalscorers with 13 goals.
United were disappointing going forward last season. Most of our attackers lacked the will to fight for the team. The side lacked creativity. Apart from Cristiano Ronaldo, none of our attackers had an impact.
