FC Porto not interested in re-signing Alex Telles from Manchester United this summer
FC Porto are not looking to bring Alex Telles back to Portugal this summer from Manchester United, according to journalist Pedro Sepulveda (h/t Express).
The Dragoes have been linked with a move for their former Brazilian left-back. But any suggestions of a return have been rubbished by the Portuguese champions. It’s being said that they’re not in the market for a left-back at all.
United signed the 29-year-old in the summer of 2020 from Porto. The Brazilian has played a key role in the side as a backup for Luke Shaw. The England international injury issues have meant that Telles has gotten a lot of opportunities in the side.
But the former Porto man has failed to take the chances and make himself a regular in the XI. While the Brazilian is dangerous going forward, it’s his defensive qualities that fans are disappointed in.
United’s backline was in disarray last season. The likes of Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof failed to solidify the defence. There was no consistency in the full-back positions in terms of personnel. And Telles made some high-profile errors.
The Red Devils finished the season with their worst points tally in the Premier League. We ended up with a goal difference of zero as we conceded 57 goals in the league campaign, losing 12 matches.
The appointment of Erik ten Hag has seen the arrival of two new faces in the defence. Tyrell Malacia was signed from Feyenoord. Lisandro Martinez has been bought from Ajax.
While the Dutch national is a natural left-back, the Argentine is also capable of playing in that position. This gives Ten Hag plenty of options to choose from.
