Chelsea are set to make an ‘offer’ for Manchester United target Denzel Dumfries
According to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United target Denzel Dumfries is attracting interest from Chelsea.
Last season, Manchester United conceded a lot of needless goals and missed out on the UEFA Champions League spots because of it. New manager Erik ten Hag is fully aware that there needs to be a big change in the defensive third of the field.
Denzel Dumfries, who played for Inter and had a respectable 2021/22 season, is attracting Manchester United. Chelsea have now joined the race, so the Red Devils know they have competition.
The Blues are believed to be readying an offer for the Dutchman in an attempt to lure him away from Inter Milan who are now open to selling him in the ongoing summer window.
Inter Milan paid €12.5 million for his services, but after an amazing run, his price appears to have almost tripled, and Inter Milan are in no condition to accept any offer less than £34 million.
United manager Erik Ten Hag is familiar with Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries from his time as an Eredivisie player. He has already signed a Dutch full-back in Tyrell Malacia earlier this summer.
The 26-year-old participated in 45 games in all competitions and scored five goals and added seven assists last season. The offensive prowess of the Rotterdam native has made him a stalwart for the Dutch national team. He can also operate as a wing-back.
The Red Devils have plenty of left-back options with four seniors currently available for selection. Diogo Dalot is a capable fullback, although neither his offence nor his defence is uber strong.

Even though Wan-defensive Bissaka’s capabilities might be useful, Ten Hag’s system may not be a good fit for his terrible ball-control and passing abilities.
If a high-calibre player were ultimately required to fill the opening, Dumfries would be a good option. However, given the pursuit by our rival Chelsea, his fees could rise. Additionally, Inter don’t appear to be very eager to let him go without receiving a big return on their investment.
