Transfer News: Manchester United willing to let Cristiano Ronaldo leave on loan
According to Steve Bates of the Mirror (via utdreport) [h/t Manchester Evening News], Manchester United are willing to let Portuguese superstar forward Cristiano Ronaldo out on loan this summer if he triggers the one-year extension clause on his contract.
Ronaldo’s future at Old Trafford has been uncertain for quite some time now. He is yet to turn up for pre-season this summer with Man United deep into their preparation for next season and there is a lot of speculation over his future.
The former Real Madrid man came to Old Trafford last season in a move that was received with huge anticipation. Ronaldo’s first spell at Man United was nothing short of spectacular and similar things were expected this time around.
However, it is fair to say that things haven’t exactly gone as expected when it comes to the signing of the Portuguese forward. Manchester United had one of their worst seasons and went trophyless last season.
It is not to say that the 37-year-old did not deliver. Ronaldo had a very good season on a personal note scoring 24 goals and providing three assists across all competitions in 38 games for the Red Devils last season.
With Man United failing to qualify for the Champions League, it is understandable that Ronaldo wants to leave just one year upon joining us. A legend of the competition, the 37-year-old will not want to miss out on playing in the UCL for one season.
The solution that Manchester United are proposing now seems to make a lot of sense. If he can be loaned out for one season to a CL club, he will get the football he is craving for and return a season later assuming the Red Devils finish in the top 4 this season.
It is not the ideal situation for Man United and it can be viewed as a selfish move on the part of Cristiano Ronaldo but sometimes, decisions like these have to be made for the sake of all the parties involved.
