Peter Schmeichel warns Manchester United midfielder, Christian Eriksen
According to Tipsbladet (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United legend, Peter Schmeichel has warned new signing Christian Eriksen of the upcoming challenges that he would face at the club. The Danish midfelder was signed by Erik ten Hag with an intention to strengthen the midfield.
The 30-year-old was a revelation at Brentford and his journey since the unfortunate journey at the Euros has been inspiring. The Bees’ creativity and possession numbers were increased dramatically since the former Inter Milan joined them.
It was no surprise that many elite clubs started to monitor his situation as soon as his six-month deal expired. Being a free agent and with such top quality, any player would be bound to be surrounded by clubs and Eriksen was no exception.
The Dane wouldn’t resist moving to Old Trafford as he signed a new three-year deal with the Red Devils. Erik ten Hag would love the fact that he would have both an experienced player, especially one with a winners mentality to guide the club’s young players.
However, many big names have failed to live up to the expectations at Manchester United. Players like Harry Maguire are still getting booed by the fans due to their below-par performances. Although Eriksen has been a consistent player throughout his career, Schmeichel feels that he will have to cope with the extreme pressure at Old Trafford.
“Christian Eriksen does not expect greater pressure than other new players – but you do not know what the pressure is at Manchester United until you have tried it. The expectation is that you win every time. You have to do your best in every single match. The fans are patient but have a limit and when it is reached it creates pressure.”
Schmeichel has also backed the former Brentford midfielder to succeed at the club by stating that he already possesses the mental balance that is required. The fans would hope that Christian Eriksen would most likely be a hit and help Ten Hag in bringing the right balance to the squad.
The 30-year-old has trained with the Dutch manager in the Netherlands and that would have influenced his decision to book the ticket to Manchester. The playmaker has himself revealed that he admires ten Hag’s philosophies and would be looking forward to playing under him.
