Transfer News: Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag wants to sign Sergino Dest from Barcelona
According to the Spanish outlet Nacional (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag wants to sign Sergino Dest from Barcelona to provide competition to Diogo Dalot next season.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka hasn’t been all that impressive going forward since he joined the Red Devils from Crystal Palace. While he was trusted by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick came in and started to change things around.
Diogo Dalot is talented and can do a solid job but he will need competition going into next season and Sergino Dest would be an ideal option to compete with him. It remains to be seen what Erik ten Hag’s view would be regarding Wan-Bissaka.
Dest joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2020 and has gone on to show glimpses of his potential whilst playing for the Catalan club. However, he has always been susceptible to injuries and tends to have a mistake in him.
It is common for a 21-year-old to be like that and there is no denying the fact that the American international has constantly learned and improved his skills at Barcelona during his time there.
Erik ten Hag would have seen Dest play first-hand during their time at Amsterdam with the talented American making a name for himself whilst playing for the Eredivisie champions under our current manager.
It is being claimed that the Red Devils might have to shell out £17m required for the services of the American and Erik ten Hag has apparently requested the board to negotiate with Barcelona and sign the player.
We seem to be on good terms with Barcelona this season, having already been negotiating with them for Frenkie de Jong and Sergino Dest could also now be a part of those discussions. However, the Spanish club might not want to sell the full-back.
