Declan Rice speaks about his future amid Manchester United interest
Long-term Manchester United target Declan Rice has talked about his future at West Ham and rumours linking his name to other potential suitors. The newly appointed West Ham United captain has been a standout performer for the Hammers and continues to be linked with an exit.
Surprisingly the English midfielder never demanded a move away from London. In fact, he has been happy to play under David Moyes. It would be safe to say that the former Chelsea academy graduate’s career has blossomed since his move to the London stadium.
In a recent interview with Gary Neville on his podcast, ‘The Overlap’, the midfielder revealed the fact that he didn’t receive everything on the platter when he joined West Ham. In fact, he went on to say that he was not the favourite to make it to the senior side.
But his determination to succeed worked wonders for the 23-year-old as he soon turned into one of the most important players for David Moyes’s side. Since then, many elite clubs have enquired about the defensive midfielder in recent years.
Manchester City distanced themselves from the move, however, it was their rivals, Chelsea and Manchester United who were heavily linked with him. The Blue’s former manager, Frank Lampard would have wanted to sign the midfielder two seasons back, however, the Hammers made it clear that the player is not for sale.
The Red Devils didn’t attempt to lodge any bid as the North London club had slapped £100million on the 23-year-old. Speaking in an interview with SkySports, the most wanted midfielder was asked about his views on the transfer speculations and his future with West Ham United. Rice responded by saying:
“Everyone knows my relationship with the players, the manager. I’ve never once complained. Every time I put on the shirt it’s ‘go out there and give 100 percent’ and whatever happens off the pitch will take care of itself. I can’t control that, what I can control is going out there and trying to be the best player every time I put on the shirt.”
The former Chelsea player admitted that is somewhat irked by these rumours and it has been annoying for him to listen to such speculations time and again. However, it does prove a point that such links to top clubs come in only when a player has been playing on a top-class level.
Declan Rice has been doing that at West Ham and under David Moyes, he would be even more confident to be a better version of himself. It’s no secret that Manchester United are on the lookout for a new defensive midfielder and they were consistently linked to Rice as he would have been an ideal option for the club.
