Ajax’s boss delivers a major blow to Manchester United regarding Antony

According to ESPN, Manchester United have suffered a major transfer blow as Ajax Amsterdam boss, Alfred Schreuder has revealed that Antony will stay in Amsterdam this summer. Erik ten Hag admires the Brazilian winger and would love to bring him to Old Trafford, however, the Dutch side are fighting to keep a hold of him.

Ajax have been akin to a wishing well for several top clubs this season. The Eredivisie champions have already let several starting XI players leave and it would be highly unfortunate for them to lose Antony at this point of the transfer window.

Players like Sébastien Haller, Ryan Gravenberch, Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui have left for much bigger clubs. The Dutch side have to accept the fact that they are not at the top of the food chain and it would be natural for players to leave for bigger opportunities.

Another player who would be the next one to head towards the exit doors is Antony. The 22-year-old attacker had 22 goal involvements in just 32 appearances. The Red Devils need a right-winger with a similar hunger for goals as the Brazilian but he is unlikely to come cheap.

But, newly appointed Ajax boss, Alfred Schreuder believes that it would be highly unlikely for Antony to leave at this moment. Speaking to ESPN, the manager said:

“I really think he will stay. Of course, we have sold a lot of players now. That has not happened in recent years. We have also bought players. But we have sold so many players that I assume nobody will leave.’

Ajax are unlikely to permit Antony to leave on the cheap. Although the club didn’t set a deadline date, they would still hope that the player stays. Schreuder had recently revealed that the club signed the winger’s replacement in the form of  Francisco Conceicao which would further boost United’s chances of landing the attacker.

The Red Devils need serious reinforcements on the right flank as they have only Jadon Sancho to lead the line from that spot. Mason Greenwood’s future hangs by a thread and Amad Diallo is still too young to lead the line every weekend.

United starlet, Anthony Elanga would prefer to play at the left, and Facundo Pellistri looks likely to be loaned out again. That leaves no place for competition at the right-wing spot. Erik ten Hag would look ahead to reunite with his former player as he would be the right player for his system.
