Ajax find a potential replacement for Manchester United target Antony

According to Het Parool (h/t Manchester Evening News), Ajax Amsterdam might have paved the way for Manchester United to sign Antony by finding a replacement for the winger. Like any other club, it is normal for the Dutch team to be worried about losing their star players in quick succession.

The Dutch side have already witnessed several of their top first-team players leave the club and they would be set to lose even more. Lisandro Martinez, Ryan Gravenberch, Sebastian Haller, André Onana, and Noussair Mazraoui have all departed to potentially greener pastures.

Although Ajax have been working incredibly hard to sign their replacements, they would be hit hard if another of their star players leaves just before the transfer window ends.

Antony has been a key player for Ajax last term as evident by his incredible statistics last season. He scored 12 goals and provided 10 assists in just 32 appearances under Erik Ten Hag. His raw pace and dribbling skills were a potent weapon to break down the opposition’s defence.

However, the 22-year-old future would not be secured until and unless there has been no confirmation from either the player or his parent club. Manchester United have been linked with a move for the Brazilian and it does make sense that the player has gained a lot of attention after United signed his fellow teammate, Lisandro Martinez.

Ajax would not take this situation for granted and their well-run management have a solution for his future. They have signed Francisco Conceicao from Porto as a replacement for the Brazilian winger. This move would be enough to put more fuel on the fire regarding Antony’s transfer to Old Trafford.

Ajax technical manager Gerry Hamstra revealed that the club has signed Conceicao as a potential successor to Antony. While speaking to Het Parool (h/t Manchester Evening News), he said:

“At Ajax, we also continue to think about the long term. I can imagine that that goes a little faster with a Portuguese or European than with a boy from South America. So, Conceicao is another example of bringing the successor, in this case, Antony, into your selection.”

However, the fans would observe a point that the Ajax technical manager still wishes to keep his players and not lose any more of them. But, with signings coming thick and fast, the Red Devils would not slow down after they have picked up pace in the transfer market.

The signing of a potential successor would be a piece of positive news for Erik Ten Hag as he continues his search for a new winger. Ajax would accept the fact that they can’t keep hold of their players for long as they are not at the top of the food chain.

Players wish to move to their dream club or some prefer to stay and develop themselves as in the case of Jurrien Timber. The Dutch defender was linked with a move to Old Trafford, but he preferred to agree on personal terms to sign a new contract with Ajax to keep improving himself for the future.

The Dutch side have currently slapped a hefty price tag of £70million to sign Antony. It will be interesting to see whether the Eredeviese side continues to stick with their price or accept a lower fee in the end.
