Teddy Sheringham critical of Cristiano Ronaldo’s chances of staying at Manchester United
Teddy Sheringham has given his views on the current situation surrounding the future of Manchester United star, Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese striker has been facing an uncertain future as he is yet to find a new club.
The 37-year-old had expressed his desire to leave the club and his agent has been on the lookout for potential suitors. However, even if these speculations would surprise many, it was expected that one day he would leave the club.
Ronaldo missed the preseason training owing to family reasons and hence, his availability is in doubt. With Chelsea and Bayern Munich all but ending interests in the player, it remains to be seen what will be the next step for the legendary striker.
Teddy Sheringham believes that Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure would open doors for the Red side of Manchester to sign two or three players on that wage bill. This would also create a whole new opportunity for the club as they explore the transfer market.
Speaking to 8Xbet (via the Daily Mail), he said:
“I half saw it coming. People are saying shall Ten Hag build his team around Ronaldo, but if he wants to go he goes. That opens up a whole new corridor for United. You could get in two or three players on that sort of wage and that is a lot of money they could spend each month.
The former Juventus striker joined the Red Devils last year. He signed a two-year deal and has one more year left on his current contract.
No Champions League football would undoubtedly bug Ronaldo and perhaps the lack of it has played a part in him wanting to leave. But then again, he wasn’t signed to be a long-term solution anyway.
It was a move rooted more in emotions and hype- one that would create shockwaves around the world. Not to mention, the short-term success he could single-handedly bring to the club.
Manchester United‘s board would be well aware of the fact that the club needed a young striker to spearhead their attack. Ralf Rangnick had opened up about a similar issue when he said that the board rejected his claim of signing a striker in January.

It wouldn’t be a bad call to sell Ronaldo, especially if we have a young and talented striker to replace him here. Edinson Cavani has already left this summer so if Ronaldo does leave, it is in our best interest to replace him in a proper manner.
For now, the Dutch manager has the chance to give Anthony Martial the opportunity to lead the front line in the preseason games.
