Manchester United target Christopher Nkunku is unwilling to leave the Bundesliga this summer
According to LVZ via AS (h/t The Mirror), RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku has made clear his intentions this summer amidst interest from Manchester United.
The French international is coming off a prolific season that saw him notch up 35 goals and 20 assists in 52 games across all competitions. He led the German giants to the UEFA Europa League final, even scoring in the showpiece event. Unfortunately, it was not enough to see them land the coveted trophy.
The number he put up saw Nkunku garner attention from several top European teams, including Manchester United. The player has now given his verdict as to what the future holds for him this summer.
The 23-year-old penned a new deal that will keep him at Leipzig until 2026. Nkunku has now opened up on the same, affirming that his actions more or less confirm his stay in the Bundesliga for the 2022/23 campaign.
“I did not renew to leave the club next year.”
The Frenchman’s comments more or confirm that he is now staying put at the Red Bull Arena. This is a blow for Man United who could do with a dynamic goal-scorer to lead the line under Erik ten Hag.
The uncertainty surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future coupled with Edinson Cavani’s exit and Mason Greenwood’s off-field issues leaves us pretty thin in the striking department.
Ajax Amsterdam star Anthony has been linked with a summer switch to Old Trafford. With Nkunku off the market, it makes sense for the Red Devils to go all out and land the Brazilian star.

Nkunku has all the talent to develop into a major player for both club and country for years to come. In hindsight, staying at Leipzig will give him the space and time to further develop his talents. As long as he keeps performing, there should be no shortage of suitors in the upcoming transfer windows.
