Transfer News: Manchester United are on the verge of signing Lisandro Martinez

According to popular Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are on the verge of signing talented Argentinian centre-back Lisandro Martinez from Ajax.

Martinez is being heavily linked with a move for the talented Argentinian defender. Arsenal were also in the race for the talented 24-year-old but the Red Devils have slowly yet surely leapfrogged the Gunners for the talented player.

One of the best players in the Amsterdam club in recent seasons, Martinez has been one of Erik ten Hag’s most important players during their time with the Eredivisie champions and it’s not surprising that the Dutch tactician wants him at Old Trafford.

Martinez joined Ajax from Defensa in 2019 and has only grown from strength to strength every season. The 24-year-old even got voted ‘Ajax player of the year’ for his exploits this season for the Eredivisie champions.

One thing that really makes Martinez stand out is the fact that he can play in multiple positions on the football field. The Argentinian is capable of playing at centre-back, left-back and even as a defensive midfielder.

With a move looking imminent for the Argentinian, Manchester United would be getting a quality player on their hands. He can be a mainstay in their defence for many seasons to come and be a real star at Man United.

Man United really need reinforcement in defence for next season and Lisandro Martinez could be the ideal player. He can partner with Raphael Varane at the centre of defence and form a solid partnership next season.

Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have been less than dependable in recent seasons due to their inconsistent performances. It is advisable to improve upon them and signing the Argentinian defender could be a step in the right direction- although, it remains to be seen how Martinez would perform in England if he does come here.
