Transfer News: Brentford beat Manchester United to Thomas Strakosha
According to the Sun, Manchester United have been beaten by fellow Premier League club Brentford to the signature of Albanian shot-stopper Thomas Strakosha on a free transfer.
With Dean Henderson securing a loan move away from the club to Nottingham Forest for next season in search of regular minutes, it has left Man United seeking a back-up to the incumbent number one David de Gea.
The Red Devils do have Tom Heaton in the squad with the veteran shot-stopper capable of doing the role of an understudy. However, it seems like Man United want to secure their goal-keeping department a little bit more and are looking for a signing.
Strakosha seemed like the best option for Man United considering the fact the talented Albanian is only 27 years old and was available on a free transfer after failing to renew his contract with the Italian club Lazio.
The Albanian shot-stopper played 31 times for the Italian giants last season across all competitions conceding just 36 goals and keeping 11 clean sheets. These numbers are really impressive and Strakosha seems like a talented goalie.
As popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed, it has been Strakosha’s dream to play in the Premier League and he is set to realise it now. That said, he may have wanted to play regular football which we cannot promise at Old Trafford.
David de Gea is our undisputed number one between the sticks. After a few seasons of indifferent performances, the Spanish shot-stopper had a comeback season and was exceptional for a struggling Red Devils side.
Regardless, in case of an injury or suspension, Man United will want a shot-stopper with enough quality to take over from David de Gea and it seems like they don’t think Tom Heaton is the answer to that.

Now that the Strakosha saga is over, it remains to be seen who Man United pursue to fill the vacant number two stop. However, due to the lack of options, they may have to stick with Tom Heaton after all.
