Manchester United give in to Ajax Amsterdam’s transfer demands for Lisandro Martinez
According to the Dutch news outlet De Telegraaf (h/t Metro), Manchester United have finally decided to give in to the demands made by Ajax to facilitate a transfer for Lisandro Martinez. The English side is nearing the completion of this deal, with “final negotiations” being set to take place later today.
The Eredivisie club had rejected three offers from Man United for Martinez until now, having set an asking price of £46million for his signature. Ajax also turned down two proposals from Arsenal, who are in the mix to strike a deal for the centre-back this summer.
However, the Red Devils are now willing to match the Argentine’s current valuation to finalise a deal at the earliest. With Erik ten Hag and Martinez being eager to reunite with each other, a move could be on the cards shortly after Ajax accepted that they have no choice other than to sell the defender.
Good decision from Man Utd?
It appears that the desperate need to reinforce the squad may have influenced the Manchester hierarchy to take a final stance in this case. There is no doubt that completing a move for Martinez would be a massive boost indeed, but one may wonder whether we have overpaid for him.
Then again, if ten Hag believes that Martinez can succeed at Carrington to a great extent, then the investment we made can be made back through the success that we would achieve in the future. We no longer need to worry about the Dutch side changing their decision as they are said to be content with this situation.
The same can be said for the Gunners, as they may not be a threat to us anymore now that Martinez is keen to join us. After all, he was ready to go on a strike and supposedly even pleaded with the Amsterdam-based club to let him leave ahead of the next campaign.

We officially began our pre-season yesterday as the Mancunians got the better of Liverpool by a 4-0 scoreline. We need to bring in our transfer targets at the earliest so that they can quickly adapt to the new teammates and surroundings by using these friendlies.
Hence, it would be in our best interests if a transfer can officially be finalised for Martinez today itself. Let’s hope to see the 24-year-old in our ranks shortly so that we can divert our focus to other targets wanted by ten Hag to help with the rebuilding process.
