Erik ten Hag delivers his verdict on Manchester United display in the 4-0 win vs Liverpool

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has delivered his verdict on their display in their 4-0 win against Liverpool yesterday. Despite this fixture being a pre-season-friendly game, this victory would certainly give a confidence boost and provide a stable ground to build upon for the future.

Jurgen Klopp’s side was far from their best self as they heavily rotated in the opening phase of the match and only brought on their star players towards the end. However, one could still praise Man United for what they have done and the signs of improvements they have shown in this match.

Speaking in the post-match interview with MUTV (h/t Manchester United’s official website), ten Hag admitted that they have to account for how the Merseysiders lined up today as it did play a part in the result. That being said, the boss did point out the positives and negatives he saw in this performance.

“We know we are just starting and when things begin to click like the press… we know we made some mistakes in pressing and conceded some chances but also we created a lot and I think our team played bravely, they were proactive and we had to work really hard to get out of some mistakes. What you see is we have a lot of creativity and speed in the front and we have potential.”

Promising signs indeed!

Just like the Dutch coach said, there were some noticeable improvements that the fans could take in, but the team could still work on it in the future. The flexibility in the frontline provides lots of potential for ten Hag to work with using the “creativity and speed” of the players available to him.

We also saw how the squad were proactive with their play by pressing from the front while simultaneously being solid and compact to prevent the Reds from cutting through the middle. At the same time, it is also important to remain grounded and give ten Hag some time to work his magic.

After all, it was far from a perfect performance as Klopp’s team did blow several chances that could have made the scoreline quite different. Their excellent technical prowess in the build-up also saw them bypass our press at times which must be solved moving forward.

The crucial factor is that ten Hag just had a few days to work with his squad, which certainly lifts the fanbase’s spirits. After all, one may wonder how the boss can improve this team if he is provided with more time and necessary reinforcements to improve the squad’s quality.

The fans must remain composed at this moment by not putting too much pressure on the team, which could act against our interest in this case. Then again, there is nothing wrong with hoping to see more improvements as the Red Devils make their way close to the official start of this campaign.
