Transfer News: Manchester United target Arnaut Danjuma wants to stay at Villarreal

According to GOAL (h/t Metro), Arnaut Danjuma, who is a target for Manchester United, has made up his mind to stay at Villarreal beyond this summer transfer window. His decision is influenced by the 2022 Qatar World Cup, as he eyes stability to give him the best chance of making it into the national team squad.

Danjuma has attracted a host of attention from the Premier League following his excellent season last time around under Unai Emery. Man United are one of the interested parties, with Liverpool, Newcastle and West Ham forming the rest. The latter was believed to be leading the race with a large offer touted to be on the cards, but that is no longer the case.

The Dutch international has decided that he will stay with the Yellow Submarines beyond this summer. That means Danjuma will be in Spain for at least one more campaign as he looks to regain full fitness and use familiar surroundings to get himself ready for the WC that will take place later this year.

Tough blow for Man Utd!

While the 25-year-old did not enjoy a great outing in the PL when he was with Bournemouth, Danjuma is no longer the same player as Emery has helped him to evolve his game to newer heights. In fact, the forward has more or less been converted to a striker while also excelling in his natural role on the left wing.

Danjuma would have been a solid option to meet our needs now that we have prioritised the addition of an attacker as a necessity. With uncertainty remaining over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future, one could argue that the La Liga star would have been a better option than RB Leipzig’s Brian Brobbey, for example.

We have been linked with Brobbey, who is not yet ready to take the brunt of playing in the European top five leagues. That is evident from his short and failed spell in Germany, but unfortunately, Danjuma would not be an option as a result of this latest setback.

Even if Ronaldo does stay beyond this summer, we could still have used Danjuma as a replacement for Edinson Cavani. But we now have to do without the Dutch ace since he has taken a firm stance on his immediate future as of now.

It remains to be seen if Danjuma will become an option in the future as we would need to replace Ronaldo eventually anyway. By that time, perhaps the former would be open for a fresh challenge, although his contract that runs until 2026 would probably give us some trouble if we do target him.
